About Steph Carter
My story
My career in childcare began over 20 years ago, working in social services while juggling the very real challenge of finding reliable childcare for my own children. That lived experience shaped everything that followed.
In 2004, I took the leap into childminding, operating from my own home. This allowed me to care for my own children while meeting the growing demand for quality childcare within my local community. From there, my business grew organically.
Today, I am the proud owner of four successful day nurseries and four before- and after-school clubs. I have also previously owned a pre-school and baby unit in a domestic setting, giving me hands-on experience across all types of early years provision. That journey — from sole childminder to multi-setting owner — is something I am incredibly proud of, and we are still growing.
Over the years, I’ve seen just about everything the sector can throw at you. I’ve experienced the frustration of being rated Inadequate by Ofsted — twice — and I’ve successfully challenged those outcomes and had grades overturned. It is possible to fight back, and I know first-hand how overwhelming that process can feel.
That depth of experience has led me to consultancy.
Why did I choose to consult…..
I now offer bespoke consultancy and training to childminders, pre-schools, and nurseries nationwide. As your dedicated early years consultant, my aim is to work alongside you to remove obstacles, build confidence, and help you thrive — not just survive.
Childcare is a high-pressure environment, especially when inspections loom. I am passionate about supporting owners, managers, and practitioners who feel overwhelmed by inspection pressures, empowering them with the knowledge, confidence, and practical strategies needed to navigate inspections successfully.
Professional development is my favourite word — it’s how we grow, both individually and as settings.
Outside of work (with the little free time I have!), I’m a proud Nana and the owner of two beautiful Pomeranians who often visit the nurseries with me. The staff and children absolutely adore them.
